Ponyboy
Ponyboy Curtis is a 14 year old boy whose world has been turned upside down. His parents were killed in an automobile accident just eight months before The Outsiders story takes place. He lives with his oldest brother, Darry, who is 20 years old and has legal custody of him and his other brother, Sodapop, who is 16. Darry characterizes Ponyboy as lacking common sense. He is smart at school, but sometimes he just doesn't think. These occasions get Pony into trouble that he could avoid. Ponyboy learns that his behavior impacts others, and this newly acquired maturity leads to the telling of The Outsiders story.
Sodapop
Soda is the middle Curtis boy. He's said to be "movie star handsome," and has silky, dark gold hair that he combs back with dark brown eyes and a goofy grin that you can't help but love. He is a high school dropout at 16, and works at the local gas station with his best buddy, Steve, fixing cars and working the cash mostly. It's also mentioned that "he attracts like flies to honey". Girlls would go there just to stare and flirt with him. He is idiolized by his younger brother, Ponyboy, and feels torn between both brothers.
Darry
Darry is the oldest of the three Curtis brothers, and the adult of the house ever since their parents died. He is a large man, six-foot-two and he is broad shouldered. His hair is said to be like his father's, dark brown that sticks out in the front of his head with a cowlick in the back. He is said to look exactly like his father, but with different eyes. Which are a blue- green color. Also, he looks older than his actual age, which is twenty. Ponyboy says he would be better looking if his eyes weren't so cold.
