Dallas Winston
Dally is a 17 year old Greaser. He is a member of Ponyboy's gang of friends. In the book, he is described as being heartless with blue eyes. Dally is very tough, unforgiving, and untrustworthy. He was even arrested in the streets of New York at age 10. His family is not mentioned much, but he does say that his old man wouldn't care if he was drunk, arrested, or dead in the streets. So we can infer he comes from an awful household. The only thing Dally cared about was Johnny and once he had died, he attempted robbing a store and was shot and killed by the police. Everyone knew that's what he wanted and Dallas Winston always got what he wanted.
Johnny Cade
Johnny was smaller than the rest, with a slight build. He had big black eyes in a dark tanned face. His hair was jet-black, heavily greased, and combed to the side. It was so long that it feel in shaggy bangs across his forehead. He had a nervous, suspicious look in his eyes. Johnny was very quiet so he never got in the way often. Whenever a fight started, he was always trying to stay out of the way, but when Ponyboy ended up nearly getting killed by the Socs, he didn't hesitate to save his friend from near death.
Johnny later ends up getting severely burned which is what ends up killing him. When Dallas came into the burning church to save him, he was launched out of the building, which broke his back. If Johnny had survived he would have been paralyzed from the middle of his back down. He would have been stuck in his house with his abusive parents that hated him. Everyone knew Johnny was better off this way but they would rather it have been someone else to die instead of ol' Johnnycake.
